You've probably guessed it already. My name is Cheryl.

My first real English book was Shadow Forest by Matt Haig - I have no idea what made fourteen-year-old me pick it up in a language that wasn't mine, but it stuck. Harry Potter was my first full series, and that's probably where it started: I've been a sucker for a good series ever since, the kind with seven books and a map in the front, the kind you can lose entire weeks to.

Fantasy carried me for years, until Kate Mosse's Labyrinth trilogy — Labyrinth, Sepulchre, Citadel - found me around turning twenty and pulled me sideways into romantasy. I even went to Carcassonne (France) where the story of this series takes place.

My TBR pile never really recovered, and neither did my search history. Cheryl's Mini Library is where I keep track of it all now: every book rated on vibe, pace and spice, for anyone else reading fantasy in English from this side of the Channel.

It's a bit quiet... . It' my 3rd month on Bookstagram and I'm already "slacking". . To be honest, life is a bit much right now. I work A LOT. I have my own company. I work for another one. I'm also a dogsitter and I workout. So most of the time, I'm barely home and have not a lot of time to read. . And when I do have a moment, I'd rather walk the dogs. Being in nature, just a bit of peace an quiet and enjoying the fact that they are happy. . In the mean time, I'm trying to get back on track. I found my very first English book. . I've been reading for as long as I can remember, yet at that time I was reading mostly in Dutch. Harry Potter was my first serie I've read since I was 10 or so. . But I always had a love for the English language. Sometimes, it just gets me more on an emotional basis. . Since I was 12 or 13, I started to borrow English books from the library. A year later I got my first actual English book: "Shadow Forest" from Matt Haig. . This book is 20 years old and still in very good condition despite me moving several times in those years. . This book is about Samuel who finds himself wandering in a forrest he shouldn't be in, looking for his sister that has gone missing there after they moved to their aunt in Norway. But this forrest is not for the weak... . This book has awaken my love for English fantasy books and that escalated into having my own mini librabry at almost 35 years old😍. . I finished Empire of Storms! . And started Tower of Dawn. . I really like the Throne of Glass series so far! . Once I have finished all 8 books, I will write an honest review. . Why do I wait reviewing ToG? Because I only remember full storylines. Don't ask me what happened in book 3🫣🤣. I just know I love the full story, and I remember the progress. . Did you know... . I love to read with a fantasy background on my tv. . Did you know that you can add your Youtube on your smart TV and just search for things like "Throne of Glass ambiance" or "Fourth Wing ambience"? . You get hundreds of options to choose from. Some with crackling fire, some with the sound of rain and some with whimsical music. . It makes me enjoy reading even more and it almost feels like I'm actually in another universe. . Did you know?
